Watercolors, Weird and Wordy Description

Sarah originally developed this course for Soul Food at the now (very sadly) closed Community Thrive.  You will learn the basics of watercolor, found poetry, and creeper creation.

Watercolors are scary.  I don’t know why, but they scare the crap out of a lot of people!  If you’re one of those people, just know you’re not alone.

In this workshop, I’ll go over basic watercolor techniques, layering, color theory, and splattering.  Woo!

I’ll go more in depth on supplies in the first part of the lesson, but your basic supply list includes:

  • Watercolors
  • Stabilo pencil
  • Black ink
  • Dip pen and white ink (my favorite) or white gel pen (I like Gelly Roll or Signo Uniball)
  • Text
  • 5 x 7 canvas panel painted black
  • Optional:  PanPastels and stencils for background
  • Optional:  Twinkling H2Os for background splatters

Sample 1

You’ll get a full walk-through and tutorial on the cotton candy boy (including all of my inane blathering) and a time lapse demo of the balloon girl.  You’ll also get my tips on finding found poetry, recommendations on watercolor brands from self-diagnosed watercolor junkie, and tricks and tips along the way!
