    • Free crochet patterns  Frankenstein’s Monster!  Rawr! This pattern produces an adorably frightening little Frankenstein monster that you can make with medium or bulky yarn.  The monster has lots of customizable features, from his too-short sleeves to the scars on his face. This is an intermediate pattern, requiring approximately 2 dozen color changes in the head – but don’t let that scare you!  According to my tester, it was “totally worth it!” You can download the PDF right here:  Frankenstein Pattern from wonderstrange     Eye Heart Potholders This pattern uses t-shirt yarn, tutorial right here if you need it!  You could also use worsted-weight yarn and make ornaments or thread/floss to make earrings should you so desire! This pattern assumes you know how to work in joined rounds and how to do color changes! Click here to download the PDF:  Eye Heart Potholders

Living with Art: When Trouts Fly

Dear Diary, Remember back in January of 2016 when I painted 30 canvases in 30 days and killed six or seven innocent paint brushes and consumed the body weight of a surly, obese lap dog in frozen pizza and then auctioned the paintings for charity, after which, I cried into Read more…

Living with Art – Refashioning a Fish Mold

Do you like fun facts?  Here’s one from the vault: I don’t eat fish.  Okay, that wasn’t fun at all, especially since I could have told you I once co-starred in an amateur pornographic film with Tom Brokaw.  I mean, that’s not true, but I could have said it.   What Read more…

Living with Art: Ding Dong Decorate

After 18 months of Living with Art projects, I have displayed or created art in a lot of unexpected places: My pantry doors, my laundry room light switch, even my bathroom trash can.  By this point, my husband and I both eyeball everything that doesn’t qualify as art with some Read more…

Living with Art – Doll Heads on Parade

Hello, people of Earth!  Living with Art has returned! I started a couple of different projects this week, but I’m going to ease back in with something simple: Doll heads. Now, to be fair, doll heads are not technically art, but here’s the deal: I’m not that technical.  Also, if Read more…

Living with Art: Altering a Rustic Wine Bottle Holder

Last week, I mentioned that my father had been picking up some things for me at auctions.  Here is a rustic wood wine bottle holder that he was particularly excited to hand over to me, with the propitious words, “I thought you could do something with this.  You know.  One Read more…

Living with Art: Assemblage Art Doll

As my mother will tell you, I was always a Daddy’s Girl.  He didn’t walk on water; he danced the tango on it.  After my dad witnessed my stepfather bringing me metal bobs and bits for my assemblage work a few weeks back, he decided that he wanted to play, Read more…

Living with Art: Artsy Storage for Artsy Stuff, Part 2

If you missed the opening to this post, you can find it right over here.  Or you can just read on. When last we saw this project, it looked like this: In the interim, I made Wizard of Oz-inspired labels on Strathmore drawing paper using colored pencils, because colored pencils Read more…

Living with Art: A Fabulous Guest Post about A Fabulous Table Makeover

By Guest Artist Audrey Boudreault, one of our Living with Art contest winners from 2014! My neighbor was throwing away a fabulous piece of furniture. Old? Oh yes. In need of some love? Definitely.  So when I came back from my evening walk and found it on the sidewalk, I Read more…

Living with Art: Artsy Storage for Artsy Stuff, Part 1

My colored pencil collection has outgrown its humble home.  I knew it would happen.  One solitary can that used to hold diced tomatoes simply cannot contain all the colored pencils I want to possess. To give myself an attractive new way to store my art supplies, I first switched from Read more…

Living with Art: Recycled Canvas for the Porch

When I last went to Goodwill, I found a huge canvas for $2.99.  No, seriously. This huge canvas appealed to me because lately, I’ve had my eye on this enormous $120 dollar sign that says BEAUTY FULL At first, I thought, “I’ll make my own and save $117!”  But I Read more…
