Hey Lovelies, Nolwenn here. I don’t know about you but sometimes, I hit a creative wall. That’s why I took over my Facebook and asked for help. So this is what came out of my friends’ decisions for me.
Here are the prompts : use the art journal, do an abstract page, use the color combo yellow+orange+turquoise, use Gass Bead Gel
At the beginning of the year, I decided to put less creative pressure on my shoulders and this is why I went for an handmade journal with few pages (it is easier to fill tons of those that a single big one).
My art journal is where I express myself without overthinking my process. This is where my deepest thoughts go. Where I am the most free.
I am all about inserting symbols into my art. I have kind of an encyclopedia of my personal symbols. Sigils are something I would love to learn even more about, Sarah’s Sigil stencils are stunning. For this page, I used the « Do no harm, take no shit » symbol part (you might remember I used the phrase on my first project).
Hands are another part of my symbol encyclopedia. I love that the Skeletal Hands stencil comes with the hand mask as well. I almost use it but it would have meant covering my background and I decided against it.
You can use stencils in many many ways to make them say what you want. The Freaky Eyes Pattern one is amazing ! Especially in 12×12 size.
Gel media of all kinds are amazing with stencils because it is an easy way to create texture on a page (or canvas… or whatever). The Glass Bead Gel, colored with artist pigments, looks great used with the stencil.
I really hope following along my crazy ideas got you inspired to play in your own art journal and just let go of perfection. Fun and personal stories are essential to my practice. What’s in yours ?
