Several weeks ago, I posted about a client who wanted me to create a large set of Star Wars characters by altering . . . something. She wasn’t sure what, and frankly, neither was I. What does one alter in a quantity of 10 or 12? After staring at the ceiling for awhile and having no epiphanies whatsoever, I turned to the internet, which had (as usual) a lot of nonsensical and unhelpful answers, but also the germ of a genius idea. Ready?
Could you die? Because I almost did. That’s a vintage egg cup WITH PRINCESS LEIA HAIR. I couldn’t write to my client fast enough.
Of course, as it so happens, I lost the auction for that totally amazing and perfect Leia to someone who probably didn’t even like Star Wars. Infidel. No matter, though. Within 10 days, I was the proud (if temporary) owner of more than a dozen egg cups, including a backup Leia with Empire Strikes Back hair. I assigned characters to them based on height and shape, and I sent my client this picture:
She gave me the green light, and after I found two tiny egg cups, she decided she wanted Yoda, R2D2 AND an ewok. I sanded, I primed, I sanded, I sculpted, and I painted. But rather than tell you about that, I’ll just show you. Ready?
And guess what? I found another Leia!
I’ve had a lot of great commissions from a lot of wonderful people, but this will have a place in my heart forever. And it was so much fun that I’m currently collecting egg cups to do it again, this time to list in my shop.
