Greetings my little avocado biscuits!
Today I’m going to help you answer that age-old question that has stumped the most diligent of philosophers: HOW DO I MAKE AN EASY PHOTO BACKDROP FOR MY ETSY LISTINGS?!! Socrates really noodled on that one.
Fear no more, Platoroonies! I’m here to help! And this whole project is based off of one of those crappy cardboard display boards you can find at any dollar store.
Your supply list is simple. Your supply investment is minimal. Even your TIME investment is minimal. It has a “cursing in frustration” rating of 0. Ready?
Materials Listamundo!
- Crappy cardboard trifold display board (yes, the same one you used to plot constellations for your science fair project on Astrology. Maybe that was just me. WHATEVER, I got an A)
- T-square or yardstick or other long measurey thing
- Box knife
- Masking tape
This is the board you need to start with:
The first step is to paint it if you want to paint it. You can leave it white, which gives you a nice clean, elegant, and product-focused image that Etsy absolutely adores. Screw that, I went crazy.
Once you’ve painted to your wee heart’s content, put your measurey thing in the middle. Approximately. I didn’t worry about it too much. A T-square works a treat to make sure your line is straight.
Using your box knife, VERY LIGHTLY cut along the measurey thing. VERY lightly. Butterfly kiss light. You are only cutting through the top layer of paper. Once you’ve kissed your board with your knife (that sounds horribly creepy), bend it gently in the middle along that slice so that it will crease. It’ll happen suddenly, don’t scream. If you do scream, make it Jamie Lee Curtis worthy.
Flip it over and put your measurey thing along the fold. Using your box knife again, cut through all layers of cardboard on your side pieces. Carefully so as not to cut into your hardwood floor. Not that I did that or anything. *shiftyeyes*
Turn it over and fold along the crease, folding your side flaps in. I folded the top flaps first, then the bottom flaps. Using masking tape, secure those bad boys together. Using masking tape lets you easily unfold it to tuck it away behind the refrigerator. Or somewhere similarly small. I don’t suggest storing it behind your refrigerator. That’s where the monsters live.
And you’re done! Holy crap you just lost 10 whole minutes of your life (30 if you had to spray paint first).
Mine fits easily on the arms of my rolly chair, which means I can chase the light or put it in the perfect position to avoid shadows.
Everybody Happy!
