HEY KIDS! I know it’s been a while since I’ve been around, and I’m trying my hardest to remedy that now. It’s crazy how crazy it’s been around here, but things are getting less… crazy… hopefully soon. HOPEFULLY.
It’s been so crazy that I actually did this page at least four weeks ago and never had a chance to edit video until now. HOW CRAZY IS THAT?!! Crazy, that’s how.
This week’s video is inspired by Cage the Elephant’s Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked. Here’s the official video:
It’s an awesome song that inspired a ridiculously goofy art journal page. I mean, ridiculously goofy. That’s okay, though, that’s how I roll.
Hey kids! By kids I mean baby goats. You know who you are!!
So. Long time no see… how’s the wife? How’s that gout treating you? I hope you got that pony you wanted for Christmas…
I was sort of smacked in the face with misery in the latter part of 2014, so poor Ann was forced to carry on alone, struggling and trudging through at least four feet of snow with her burdens. POOR ANN. You should support her struggles by buying something from her. Go now, I’ll wait. 😉
SO. My focus in 2015 seems to be art journaling. This is super weird for all of us. BUT WE SHALL PERSEVERE. I’m still not likely to do any journaling in the normal style, you know, with actual journaling, but I have BIG PLANS. Or small plans with big egos.
I made a brand new journal for this project using an old record album as the cover. Hence the name “recordings.” I have this weird compulsion to title my projects. I’m pondering shock therapy. Anyway. I started with this:
which turned into this:
I love that the pages are round… I put a bunch of square scraps in there, which I probably won’t do once I add these to my shop. WHO KNOWS I AM FLIGHTY.
Once I had a journal made, I started pondering what I wanted to put into it. One day I was driving home and heard “Come a Little Closer” by Cage the Elephant. The line “10,000 people stand alone now” struck me like a bolt of lightning, and I decided that this journal needed to be music-based. I still like the idea of adding in scraps and photos and whatnot like I did with Chronicles, but I may make them all music-oriented. My son learns a new song on the bass every day, and my fingers hurt like hell from learning to play the guitar (yeah I’m so smart, teaching myself guitar on a steel string acoustic. SIGH), so maybe we can still make this work somehow!
Enough of my yammering! Here is my first spread:
Yay circles! The red text reads, “do you understand the things that you’ve been dreaming?”, which is a pretty brilliant line.
I hope you’ll play along with me on this or at least walk along with me giving a buttpat now and then. 😉
