If you’ve been following along at home, you know that I’ve devoted the last three weeks of my life to creating the coolest Sam and Dean Winchester dolls that I could possibly manage. I sculpted their faces. I gave them biceps. I made it possible for people to play strip tease games with Dean’s removable jacket. In sum, I worked my ass off – and slapped it right onto Sam here.
Ordinarily, when I finish designing a pattern, I move on to the next project, but not so fast, there, Tex. This time, my sister-in-law Michelle had an idea.
(I used to have a picture here, where you could see how pretty and smart and idea-having she is. But she asked me to take it away.)
See, among other awesome qualities, Michelle is a seriously amazing Supernatural fan. Give her a piece of dialogue, and I’ll bet she can tell you the episode, the title, the season, and the scene. She’s very active in the Supernatural Twitter community, and she went to a convention in Chicago last year (hereafter, a “con”) where she hobnobbed with fans and actors from the show. After Michelle saw the prototypes of my Sam and Dean dolls, she proposed that I make a set of dolls for her to drive up to her friends Diane and Denise, who are sisters, and who would in turn fly them out to Vegas for a huge “Salute to Supernatural” con. So! Sam and Dean are going to Vegas! With twins! How freaking perfect is that?!
Here they are, bags packed, getting ready to leave Michelle’s house on Tuesday morning.
After a little socializing, they’ll be on a plane for Vegas!
What will happen at the con is anyone’s guess. In my fantasy, of course, Diane and Denise will bump into the actors who play Sam and Dean (also known as Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles), and after the guys see the dolls, there will be tears of joy, photo ops, written declarations of love, confetti, pie, and possibly a little “Eye of the Tiger” action from Jensen. Or. Maybe one of the sisters can get the dolls into a shot with some lint from Jensen’s bodyguard’s left elbow. Whichever.
Next Friday, be sure to tune in for that lint shot. Meanwhile, I’ll be starting my next crochet project: The cast from The Big Lebowski!
