A long time ago, in a blog post I made last week, I showed you the start of my latest strategy for cramming more art into my kitchen: Painting kitchen canisters. (You know, the kind that hold flour, sugar, coffee, and midi-chlorians. Just kidding. Midi-chlorians go straight into the trash.)
Now, it is a dark time for dull kitchens everywhere, for I shall show you the progress I have made since last time.
First, I added the lovely design to the left and right sides of all three canisters.
But soft! What are those smudgy bits?! Those need to be cleaned up!
And so do those!
So much tedious clean up! Let’s get to the fun part, right?! Last week, I solicited suggestions for the fronts of these canisters, which sparked dozens of brilliant ideas both on wonderstrange and on Facebook. After much consideration, I am going with: 1) Hot Cross Buns (angry Leia), 2) Hoth Tamales (Tauntaun with a tamale cart), and 3) Salacious Crumbcake (Salacious Crumb, aka Jabba’s court jester).
Congratulations to AMANDA, who suggested the Hoth Tamales and wins 25% off anything in my shop!
Okay, so for this week – which was a busy one – I started and ended with Leia. First up was my rough sketch, inspired by one of the iconic shots from the opening section of Episode IV:
When she’s finished, the top strip will read HOT CROSS BUNS in a Star Wars-inspired font, because let’s face it. She’s hot. She’s not too happy. And she’s sporting some serious sidebuns. Come on back next week to check out the entrepreneurial Tauntaun and the maniacal little Crumb.
