Back in 2011, I designed a set of “misfit toy” ornaments for the holidays. I still have vivid memories of being in my nightgown, sketching the ornaments on a pad of graph paper while fighting the flu. When a customer recently ordered the pattern, I could not stop myself from peeking at it to see if it needed updating – and of course, it did, because I have three more years of design experience now. There was pretty much zero chance I was going to look at that pattern and say, “HOLY COW SO GENIUS.” This is why I shouldn’t look at patterns from 2011, or at least not until after my fall show.
Anywho. Here’s the first of the original misfits: A one-eyed, three-legged doll:
Next up is the pigling, part pig, part duckling, part awkward hookup.
The merrabbit didn’t change much except in the efficiency of his design. I also made him a little smaller.
Finally, there’s the unibear. I think it’s very clear that a unicorn and a teddy bear found a rainbow and mated under it.
The new pattern is currenly on sale – in both senses of that phrase – in my Etsy shop.
