I think I am in post-vacation recovery mode or in a slump or something – I think it is more likely just exhaustion. I have had a ROUGH time making this week’s canvas work. The challenge this week is to use modeling paste, basically to paint on a texture. It is a cool effect when it’s finished, but it was sort of painful getting to the completion point!
I started with modeling paste scraped through a stencil, which I then painted with eye-searingly bright Silks glazes:
It was pretty beautiful at this point, actually. I kind of loved it even though I was forced to sing Grateful Dead songs at the top of my lungs. I came back and spent the entire morning painting just utter and complete crap on top of it. Anatomy was off (and not my usual intentionally off, just gross), colors were ugly, it was just yuck. I sneered at it and scribbled over the face with black ink, because I’m super mature like that. I ended up painting the whole thing black and then turning it into this:
and now I’m happy. Of course there are iridescents and florescents and texture, so everything is pretty hard to photograph, but it works! And that’s all I need.
Pretty pretty girls (with no nipples for some reason)…
tons of tiny white dots..
and a tiny bit of text.
I have to go early to the kidlets’ school so that I can have Mother’s Day breakfast with kindergarteners, so I will have to post the video tomorrow. I still need to edit! Argh!
Sometimes you do what you can do, and that’s all you can do! Yabba dabba do!
EDIT: Here’s the video! Woo!
